Youth Welfare Service

1. Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, Department of Social Welfare opened ten youth training schools for the children who need to protect and care such as orphans, destitutes, street children, children sending from court to treat their moral character and children who need to protect and care according to the Child Law. Basically, our department provides these children food, clothes and shelter, giving social methods to develop their moral character, teaching basic education and vocational training, contacting other INGOs and NGOs for their education, national registration card and health care assistance. Now there are (1590) children at these training schools.

Youth Policy

Youth policy is being drawn for Myanmar Youths to become Multi-developed citizens by leading of Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, Ministry of Health and Sport, Ministry of Education in cooperation with relating departments and also youth representatives including woman Person with disability in States and Regions , UN organizations, NGOs and INGOs. Youth Policy is adopted by Cabinet on 8th November, 2017. Youth Policy Launching Ceremony was held on5th January 2018 at MICC(II), Nay Pyi Taw, State Counseller launched Youth Policy in this event.

Implementing of Case Management System

Implementing of Case Management System By leading role of Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement , cooperation with UN Agencies, NGOs, INGOs has been implemented case management system (27) townships in 2015 and extended (10)townships in 2016. Case Management Standard Operation Procedure (SOP ) was launched on November ,2015. Case Management system is defined as a to manager social problems in community with the help of the trained social workers using the resources.

Caring Service for Persons with Disability

As department of social welfare, persons with disabilities are being cared as institutions based care service. Following (8) different kinds of disabled schools are opened and run according to their age and kinds of disabilities- (1) Two schools for the blinds (Kyee Myin Taing, Sagaing) (2) Two schools for the deafs (Yangon, Mandalay) (3) Two schools for the disabled children(Yangon, Mandalay) (4) Disabled Care Centre (Yangon) (5) School for the Adult disabled (Yangon)

Center-based Services

     Since 1953, the Department of Social Welfare has been operating social welfare services. Regarding Child Welfare Services, (2) residential nurseries, (32) Day Care Centers and (10) Pre-Primary schools were started as center-based services operating in 1962.

     Although parents take care of their children affectionately in accordance with Myanmar tradition, they are unable to take care of their children all the time at present due to the changing economic systems and social patterns since women’s participation in job placement.

ASEAN – Youth

        The Department of Social Welfare is a ASEAN-Youth focal department. The objectives of ASEAN-Youth are: to promote close relationship among ASEAN – Youth, to develop the leadership skill on Youth, to upgrade and preserve the values of own culture and to exchange the knowledge of Youth policies among ASEAN countries.

         ASEAN Youth Meetings, Workshops and Seminars on Youth are held in  ASEAN countries to enhance the collaboration of Youth and their strength and to develop a global partnership for development in MDGs.
